Legend has it that in the beginning when heaven and earth had not yet formed, the universe was like a gigantic egg, with blackness within.

No one knows when it began, but gradually at the core of the universe, an elf emerged, and he was Pangu.

Lying in the egg-shaped universe, Pangu slept soundly, growing slowly amidst the chaos.

As millions of years passed, Pangu grew from a small baby into a robust giant.

He continued to slumber in the chaos for approximately 18,000 years.

One day, Pangu awoke, opening his eyes and finding that it was pitch-black around him, unable to see anything.

He exerted effort to sit up, and as he did, a cracking sound echoed through the air. The large egg split open, allowing a beam of light to penetrate the darkness.

Pangu drew out a sharp axe, tightly gripping it in his giant palm, and swung it towards the endless darkness.

At this instant, the chaos that had accumulated for billions of years was shaken.

The heavy and turbid matter gradually sank, forming the vast earth.

The light and clear substance gradually rose and slowly dispersed to form the blue sky.

Pangu feared that heaven and earth would coalesce again and become a whole again.

So he stepped on the earth with both feet and supported the blue sky with both hands, trying his best to make the distance between heaven and earth bigger.

From then on, Pangu grew one ten feet taller every day, and the distance between heaven and earth widened by one ten feet.

Day after day, year after year, another 18,000 years passed.

By this time the sky was getting higher and higher， and the earth was getting thicker and thicker, and Pangu's body was already up to 90,000 miles high.

With his tireless efforts, the sky and the earth were separated by 90,000 miles.

Finally, the towering sky enveloped the earth and finally stabilized.

Exhausted and worn out, Pangu finally lay down and never woke up again.

After an unknown period, Pangu died.

At the moment of his death, his body underwent strange changes.

The breath that came out of his mouth became clouds; his voice turned into thunder.

His eyes became the sun and the moon; his limbs and body, became mountains.

His blood, tendons and muscles, turned into rivers, roads and fields.

His hair and beard turned into stars in the sky. His skin became trees and flowers.

His teeth, bones and marrow, turned into metals, rocks and pearls.

His sweat turned into rain and dew...

There is another legend about the myth of Pangu.

According to the legend, before the chaos, the world was chaotic and densely populated, and the people were sinister, chastising heaven and earth ......

When the Jade Emperor learned of this, he decided to send a big rainstorm and a big flood to break the sky and completely wash the world clean.

But on second thought, "After the destruction of heaven and earth, everything disappears and human beings become extinct, what will the world still be like?"

Thinking of this, the Jade Emperor decided to send the Gold Star of Venus to lead divine troops descending from heaven to visit the earth.

Looking for the kindest people, keeping one or two of them for reproduction.

After years of visiting, in a small mountain village there, Gold Star of Venus visited a family with only Pangu and his sister.

Since their parents had died early, the siblings earned their living by collecting firewood, and they were kind-hearted, loyal and honest.

Therefore, the Star of White Gold reported them to the Jade Emperor.

Later, he was ordered to come down to the earth to test Pangu and his sister.

When the siblings went up the mountain to fetch firewood, they often passed by a temple.

There was a stone lion in front of the temple gate, which was so majestic and tall, with its mouth wide open, that two people could walk in side by side.

Every time they passed the big stone lion, the brother and sister always stood next to it and touched it carelessly.

Once, when the brother and sister were resting in front of the stone lion, an old monk with grey hair, ragged clothes and crutches came out from the temple.

He came to the siblings and pleaded, "We have no more food in the temple, and the disciples are leaving and running away. "

"As I am too old and weak to walk, I have not eaten for eight days, so please give me something to eat!"

"If I am not at home, you can put the steamed buns in the mouth of the stone lion, and I will go and get them myself, so as not to delay you from going up the mountain to cut firewood."

Seeing the old monk's skin-and-bones appearance, which was too pitiful, the brother and sister agreed to his request.

From then on, the brother and sister put two steamed buns in the mouth of the stone lion every day on time, while they picked wild fruits and dug wild vegetables to eat.

After some time, the old monk came out of the temple and said to them gratefully, "You are indeed kind-hearted, loyal and honest people."

"Let me tell you a piece of news in secret, the world will soon fall apart in heaven and earth, to wipe out the human beings who are evil and do wrong."

"Homely and kind as you, please pay more attention to safety!"

"From now on, you must always pay attention to the lion's eyes, as long as its eyes turn red, you should take refuge in the lion's mouth, remember, remember!"

After saying this, the old monk disappeared.

In June of that year, the sun baked the earth like a blazing fire, there was no rain for a long time, the pit and river dried up, the land was dry and cracked, and the grass and trees were withered.

One day, the wind howled between heaven and earth, the dark clouds gathered, the electricity flashed and thunder roared, making people scared.

The two siblings hurriedly packed up and went home with their firewood.

When they passed in front of the stone lion, they found that the lion's eyes were red.

Knowing that the world was about to suffer a great catastrophe, they threw down their wood stretcher and rushed back to the village to tell the villagers.

The villagers thought they were talking nonsense and no one believed the siblings, so they did not escape the disaster.

The siblings couldn't do anything about it, so they left the village, ran to the lion and got into the big stone lion's mouth.

Who knew that at that moment, the lion's mouth closed, rose in the air and drove away in the clouds.

The brother and sister looked outside through the teeth of the stone lion, only to see the flood and rolling black clouds, gloomy above and dark below.

A terrible disaster was about to befall the world.

Suddenly there was a loud bang, the mountains collapsed, the sun and the moon were lost, and the whole heaven and earth were turned into ashes.

The brother and sister shrank into a ball of fear and were so terrified that they huddled together and went into the belly of the stone lion.

When they looked inside, they were stunned.

It turned out that there was a courtyard in the stomach of the stone lion, and in the courtyard, there were two piles of steamed buns, of which were 81 in each pile.

It was then that the siblings realised that the old monk had deliberately kept this food for them so that they could escape the disaster.

Next, the siblings lived in the stomach of the stone lion for 81 days.

One day, the stone lion suddenly spoke up and said, "Let me tell you, I am actually the Jade Kirin, the mount of the Jade Emperor."

"Because I got drunk and delayed the Jade Emperor from attending the Queen Mother's Peach Banquet, I was specially punished to redeem myself in the earth."

"At that time, the Jade Emperor was already very angry at the current state of the earth and decided to rebuild the world."

"Later, after Gold Star of Venus's investigation, only you two were able to live in the earth to reproduce offspring."

"That's why the Jade Emperor asked me to use my spells and bring you here to take refuge."

"Now that the disaster has passed, you hurry out and use your own hands and wisdom to recreate the world."

After saying this, the Jade Kirin flew away on auspicious clouds.

The brother and sister climbed out of the mouth of the stone lion and found that everything in heaven and earth had ended, and there was only an auspicious cloud under their feet.

Looking at the empty world, the brother and sister were sad. The sister said sadly, "Brother, what should we do?"

Pangu said, "Sister, it is said that the Jade Emperor used to control seventeen layers of heaven, why don't we go and ask for a layer!"

So the brother and sister stepped on the white clouds and flew to the Heavenly Palace.

They flew for forty-nine days and finally arrived at the Cloud Palace.

The siblings met the Jade Emperor and explained their intention.

The Jade Emperor replied, "I can give you a layer of heaven."

Then he gave Pangu a blue handkerchief and said, "You fly into space and throw out the handkerchief, and which will become the sky."

They took the handkerchief and hurriedly flew out of the palace.

The sister said, "Oh no! We only have the sky, but we don't have the earth, what are we going to do now?"

"Brother, why don't we go and ask for another land!"

Pangu shook his head and said, "The Jade Emperor's Heavenly Palace doesn't allow anyone to ask for a second thing."

When the Jade Kirin heard what they said, he stepped forward and said, "I have a way, but I don't know if you guys have the guts?"

Pangu quickly said, "As long as we can get the earth, we are not afraid of anything."

The Jade Kirin then said, "The Jade Emperor's chambers are called the 'Dragon's Eye Palace', and inside there is a treasure of the palace called the 'Ruyi ball', which can become bigger or smaller, and you guys take it away."

"When the time comes, all you have to do is say 'big' and it will get bigger, and it won't shrink in the future."

"The problem is that during the day there are divine generals guarding it, and only at night will you have a chance to pick it off."

"Now I give you my beast king card, and when you're in a critical situation, take it out."

As soon as the words were said, the Jade Kirin flew away.

That night, Pangu told his sister to wait outside the palace and he flew to the Dragon's Eye Palace on the cloud.

When he arrived at the gate, he saw two lanterns shining brightly.

Pangu took a closer look: "Oops! It turned out to be a huge python, whose eyes were like fire and head like a millstone."

The big python viciously pounced on Pangu.

Pangu was frightened into a cold sweat, suddenly remembered the king of beasts card, and quickly pulled out. As soon as the python saw the king of beasts card, it crouched in front of the palace.

Seeing the python crouched in front of the palace motionless, Pangu passed in front of the python, came to the Dragon Eye Palace, and noticed the glittering Ruyi ball on the top of the palace.

Pangu quickly flew up to the spire of the palace, took off the Ruyi ball, installed in his coat's pocket, and then hurried back.

When Pangu came to the gate of the palace, suddenly a fierce tiger pounced on him.

Pangu pulled out the king of beasts card once again. Making the fierce tiger lying on the ground motionless, Pangu took the opportunity to fly out.

Pangu said to his sister, "Get out of here, if the Jade Emperor finds out, we'll be dead."

The brother and sister flew into space. Pangu took a deep breath and threw the handkerchief up into the air, and an azure sky suddenly appeared above their heads.

Only because the handkerchief was missing a corner, there was a black hole to the northeast.

They flew for a while, threw down the Ruyi ball, and said "Big", under the feet appeared a piece of earth.

Seeing this, the brother and sister were very happy.

At this moment, they heard someone shouting in the sky, "Pangu, since you are eager to create heaven and earth, you will not be punished for stealing the Ruyi Ball.

Pangu looked upwards and saw the Jade Emperor and Gold Star of Venus standing in the clouds.

Pangu hurriedly knelt and said, "Thank you, Jade Emperor, for your forgiveness."

"But the earth is bare. Can you give some more trees and flowers, grains and cereals, birds and beasts, and mountains and rivers?"

The Jade Emperor thought it made sense, so he scattered some pieces of coloured paper on the earth.

In an instant, rivers and mountains were layered, and trees and mountains covered all over the sky and earth.

The seedlings on the earth were lush and green, and everywhere was filled with the fragrance of birds and flowers.

The original chaotic earth became brand new.

Pangu and his sister stood on Lion Mountain at the northern end of Dabie Mountain, looking around and choosing a place to live.

The siblings ran from Lion Mountain to "Nine Dragons Mountain", and they did not know how far they had run before they reached the western slope of the mountain.

They were sweating profusely and were so tired that they could not breathe, so they sat down to rest.

The breeze blew slowly, so cool!

After resting for a while, they continued to climb the mountain. They were so tired that they could not go any further, but still insisted on climbing upwards.

In consequence, later generations referred to the southwest of Pangu Mountain's high steep place as a "high climb".

Finally, the siblings climbed to the top of the mountain and built a hut to live in.

They made clothes out of leaves to cover their bodies and slept inside the hut at night.

When they were thirsty, they drank water from the spring, and when they were hungry, they ate wild fruits and vegetables, living the life of primitive people.

That is why people later changed the name "Jiulong Mountain" to "Pangu Mountain".
